On January 16, 1920 on the campus of Howard University, five "dovely" women decided to distinguish themselves from any other sorority. It was at that moment that Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. was born. The Five Pearls chose not to embrace the tenets of traditional coalitions for African American women and sought to establish a new organization predicated upon the ideals of Scholarship, Service, Sisterly Love, and most of all  Finer Womanhood.

Since its inception, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. has expanded to include 600 collegiate and graduate chapters, located throughout the United States. In 1948, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. became a truly international organization upon the founding of chapters in Darmstadt, West Germany; Liberia and Sierra Leone in West Africa.

Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. is the ONLY African - American sorority that is constitutionally bound to a brother fraternity, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Our SPSU Brothers: The "Almighty" Alpha Beta Theta Chapter

With this said, it is obvious why everyone knows that there is a Zeta in every woman.
